JULY’S monthly competition at Prestwich Co-op Camera Club was Record and Natural History Digital Images.
Our judge was a professional photographer from Stockport PS, Alan Towse.
There were 20 entries in the Record section covering subjects such as churches, sculptures and buildings. The winner was Alec Moore’s Longships Lighthouse, Lands End, which had dramatic and pictorial elements adding to the detail of the lighthouse.
In second place with 19 marks was LS Lowry by Vernon Barlow, which was a record of a sculpture of our local hero. Third place and 18 marks went to Derek Warren’s Advertisement on Pub Wall whose cheeky subject matter injected some humour into a traditionally serious category.
Mr Towse remarked that the images in the Natural History section were of a very high standard and some would do very well in external competitions. There were 27 entries and birds and insects dominated.
Top marks went to Trevor Robinson for Dragon Fly, an incredibly well-detailed record of the insect. In second place with 19 marks was King Fisher with Minnow by Stuart Wilson, and third place went to Mike Killelea’s animated Puffin image.
The next meeting is July 20, and will be a lecture on the Highs and Lows of Wedding Photography. Meetings take place in the Centrepoint Meeting Room, Bridge Methodist Church, Radcliffe, on Tuesdays at 7.45pm.
