* THE OCCUPANTS of a house in Cromwell Road, Prestwich, escaped unhurt after an explosion caused by a build-up of gas.

* A TERRIFIED shop assistant was forced to hand over the keys to the safe when two knife-wielding raiders robbed the Ashe and Nephew off licence in Sunnybank.

* A CAMPAIGN group called Bury Metro Animal Rights planned to demonstrate in Prestwich and Whitefield against the abuse of animals.

* A BUS driver was injured when his vehicle collided with an HGV in Stanley Road, close to the main Whitefield bus station.
