The attack happened last night shortly before 10.33pm when Greater Manchester Police were called after the concert had finished and people were exiting the arena.

In a statement GMP Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, said: "We have been treating this as a terrorist incident and we believe, at this stage, the attack last night was conducted by one man. The priority is to establish whether he was acting alone or as part of a network.

"The attacker, I can confirm, died at the arena. We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device which he detonated causing this atrocity."

GMP has said 22 people are known to have died and 59 injured.

The wounded are being treated at eight hospitals across Greater Manchester.

Those concerned about loved ones are asked to ring 0161 856 9400 or 0161 856 9900.

A police cordon is in place around the Manchester Arena and Victoria Train Station, which will remain for some time.
