A WEATHER warning is in place alerting people to the chance of downpours and thunderstorms.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain for Great Manchester, running from just after midnight on Friday until 6pm.

The chief forecaster's assessment said isolated downpours may develop further north and west ahead of an eastwards moving cold front.

It adds: "This brings the risk of 30-40 mm of rain in an hour in places and more than 50 mm in a few hours.

"At this stage, there remains uncertainty in the location of the most disruptive thunderstorms."

It follows torrential downpours and thunderstorms on Tuesday evening.

A yellow warning of rain was previously in place for Greater Manchester for this afternoon and evening.
