AS the gates opened at 11am, so did the heavens.

But this is festival season - Parklife style - and a deluge of rain did not stop the party.

Music fans from Bolton and beyond flocked to Heaton Park in Prestwich for the annual festival extravaganza.

Soul II Soul, Gorgon City and Sigma got revellers dancing in the rain on the main stage on Saturday afternoon.

The MTA Arena tent was packed out with people dancing in shelter of the rain.

Saturday night's acts included Bastille in the Parklife Big Top; Chase & Status with MC Rage on the MTA Stage and Mistajam on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

About 75,000 people were expected to descend on Heaton Park each day.

Saturday night headliners The Chemical Brothers brought night one to an electric close with a storming 90 minute set with tunes including Saturate, Setting Sun and Elektrobank, complete with lights and laser show.

There was also some football thrown into the mix as England took on Russia in Euro 2016 on Saturday evening, with the 1-1 draw shown on a big screen.

The crowds were back in Heaton Park yesterday for more music from the likes of Katy B, Jess Glynne and Ice Cube.

Parklife started out at Platt Fields in South Manchester seven years ago, before moving north in 2013.
