A GARAGE has been gutted by a fire which burnt through the building in Prestwich this morning.

Three fire engines tackled the blaze in Park View Road just before 5am.

The large derelict building was filled with items including mattresses and asbestos which were destroyed by the blaze among with its timber frame roof.

It took over an hour to put out the flames as crews struggled to access the building due to a large amount of overgrown trees and shrubs blocking their way.

Firefighters believe the fire was started deliberately and a police investigation is ongoing.
