Man jailed for biting hospital worker 

A MAN who bit a hospital worker has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Marlon Finneran, aged 22, of Broad Oak Lane, Bury, assaulted Ambrose Akor and Sean Gordon in Bury on April 12 last year.

He admitted the offences to Bury magistrates on January 15 and was sentenced.

Magistrates said the offences were so serious because, in one of the cases, the defendant bit a member of hospital staff causing injury.

Woman guilty of shining laser pen in direction of traffic 

SHINING a laser pen in the direction of traffic in Bury landed a woman in court.

Sabrina Wadood, aged 19, of Tottington Road, Bury, was in Tenterden Street on September 4 when she shone the pen.

She appeared before Bury magistrates on October 16 and denied a charge of causing an illuminated laser pen beam to be over the road in such circumstances that it would have been obvious to a reasonable person that to do so would be dangerous.

Wadood was found guilty last Thursday after a trial and was given a community order.

She must stay home from 7pm to 7am daily until April 6 and pay £310 in court costs.

Guilty plea by assault man

A MAN has been told to do 100 hours of unpaid work after carrying out an assault.

Luke Browne, aged 35, of Walmersley Road, Bury, assaulted Dylan Carter in Bury on November 15 and admitted it to Bury magistrates the following day.

At a further hearing on January 5, he was given a two-month prison sentence suspended for a year.

Browne must also pay £50 compensation to his victim, pay £265 court costs and get treatment for alcohol dependency for six months.

He is not allowed to contact Mr Carter for at least six months.

Fraudster told to do unpaid work

A BENEFIT cheat has been ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work.
Linda Wood, aged 44, of Patterdale Drive, Bury, told the authorities that she was living as a single person around the time of January 7 when she was living with her partner.

She appeared before Bury magistrates on January 5 and admitted dishonestly claiming housing benefit and council tax benefit.

Wood also admitted another charge of dishonestly claiming employment support allowance in Birkenhead around the time of October 17, 2013.
She was also ordered to pay £145 court costs.

Man admits order breach

A MAN has been given a suspended prison sentence for breaching a restraining order.

Stephen Barnes, aged 28, of Levens Drive, Breightmet, broke the terms of the order by going to a house in Bury Road, Tottington, on November 15 and by contacting a woman using the Whatsapp phone app between November 18 and December 5.

He admitted the offences to Bury magistrates on December 9 and, at a further hearing on January 5, was given a two-month prison sentence suspended for nine months.

Barnes must also pay £85 court costs.

Prison term for banned motorist, 23

A MAN has been jailed after driving a car transporter while banned from the road.

Benjamin Glancy, aged 23, of Pinfold Lane, Whitefield, was caught by police driving the large goods vehicle in Pinfold Lane on August 4.

On the same day, he was also caught driving a red Vauxhall Astra that had been on the back of the transporter and did not have car insurance.

Glancy admitted driving without insurance and while disqualified to Bury magistrates on January 5 and was sentenced.

He must also pay an £80 victim surcharge.

Magistrates said it was the third time he had been caught driving while disqualified.

His previous offence took place on July 9 when he drove a Vauxhall Astra in Springwater Lane, Whitefield, while disqualified.

Fine and ban for car owner

FAILING to tell police who the driver of a car was led to a Whitefield man appearing in court.

Police asked Marc Cooper, aged 46, of Richmond Close, to tell them who was driving a Volvo V70 at the time a motoring offence took place.

Cooper admitted to Bury magistrates on January 6 that he refused to answer their question.

He was banned from driving for a month and ordered to pay £475 in fines and court costs.

Damage to sound system costs £2,000

A YOB is more than £2,000 out of pocket after damaging a woman's sound system.

Ryan Doherty, aged 24, of Elsworth Close, Radcliffe, went to a house in Clough Meadow, Radcliffe, and damaged a car brake light, a television and a sound system.

Repairing the damage cost £1,562 and Doherty was ordered to pay for that after he admitted two counts of criminal damage to Bury magistrates on January 13.

He was also fined £450 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £45 victim surcharge.

Doherty has also been banned from contacting the woman for six months.

Crash man fined

A MOTORIST who failed to stop at the scene of a crash has been banned for driving for two years.

John Holden, aged 44, of Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, was driving a Honda CRV in Edinburgh Way, Rochdale, on July 23 when the car hit a Landrover.

He admitted failing to stop at the scene and failing to consent to a breath test to police.

Holden was also given a six-week prison sentence suspended for a year and to pay £180 in costs and fines.
