A FORMER Prestwich schoolboy who died in a motorbike crash has been honoured with the creation of an award in his memory.

Dance tutor Elliott Xavier Campion, who used to study at St Monica's RC High School, died when his motorbike careered into railings in Leicester Road, Salford, at 9.30am on July 4.

No other vehicles involved.

The news of the 19-year-old’s tragic death sparked internet tributes and dozens of people left floral tributes at the crash scene.

In his final year at St Monica's three years ago, Elliott performed in a Glee-themed dance, gym and trampoline showcase.

Upon leaving school, he was able to nurture his passion for dance and he became a tutor, leading his own classes at studios across the North West.

His reputation as a dance-routine coach spread and he performed a Diversity-style routine in Manchester with Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson.

Elliott's dance skills were so much appreciated at St Monica's that he was invited in to lead a weekly street dance enrichment club at Stockport Academy by headteacher Frank McCarron — Elliott's headteacher while at St Monica's.

At the time of his death, Elliott, who was living in Salford, was helping students prepare for Stockport Academy's summer dance show, which took place on Monday evening.

Staff decided to create the Elliott Campion Award for the most inspirational student of the year and pupils performed a special dance routine in Elliott's memory.

On Twitter, Elliott's friend Ashleigh Debotte said: "I'm still in so much shock. Heaven has gained one of the most inspirational dancers I know."

And on Facebook, Dean Mac added: "This earth has lost one of the most innocent, kind hearted, passionate, loving and inspiring boys I will ever meet.

"You were so incredibly talented and I am deeply deeply upset and hurt that you have been taken away from the people around you who loved you like I did.

"My thoughts and love go to your family, your girlfriend and our friends who will forever think so greatly of you."

PC Neil Pennington, of Greater Manchester Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our condolences go out to the family of the young man who sadly died."

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to call police on 0161 856 4745.
