A PRESTWICH couple who became workmates and then soulmates have celebrated their diamond wedding.
Peter and Josephine Gethin marked their 60th anniversary on Sunday with a 39-strong family get together and party.
The couple, who live in Orford Road, have two daughters Janet and Heather and a son Paul, and five grandchildren.
Josephine, aged 80, hails from Whitefield while 79-year-old Peter was born and raised in Prestwich. They originally met when they went to work at Radcliffe-based measuring instruments manufacturing company Trumeter after they left school. Peter worked as a fitter while Josephine was a typist.
Love blossomed and the couple were married at Bury Register Office.
Later, Peter ran his own DIY shop in Salford for 15 years while his wife served as a nurse at Prestwich Hospital for around 30 years.
Reflecting on their diamond wedding anniversary, Peter said: "I can't believe 60 years have passed."
