A GROT spot has been spruced up — but there is still more work to be done to keep it tidy, councillors claim.

Residents of Baguley Crescent near Heaton Park complained to Bury Council about flytippers dumping large amounts of rubbish behind a derelict garage site.

Town hall officials teamed up councillors to clean up the area, while police officers asked neighbours about anti-social behaviour incidents, and council staff gave out recycling tips.

John Robson, aged 63, of Heywood Old Road, said: "The place has just got worse and worse for the last few months.

"It seems that the more stuff that is dumped there, the more it attracts flytippers.

"There will have been rats and all sorts there, but at least work is being done."

Cllr Paddy Heneghan, who joined in the work, said: "The value of having a multi-agency team out in the area working together was enormous.

"Some issues could be tackled straight away.

"Others were identified which need a longer-term approach, for example, the flytipping between the flats and on garage sites.

"This issue may require legal action to stop repeat offenders."
