The family of a schoolgirl killed after being hit by a car on the East Lancashire Road have paid tribute to their "beautiful, precious" daughter.

Katie Sian Gallagher, aged 14, of King's Crescent, Tyldesley, died after being hit by a Nissan Skyline on the East Lancashire Road, near Astley, shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Her parents Joy and Keith Gallagher paid the following tribute: "Katie Sian was our most beautiful, precious daughter and lit up our lives and those of everyone who knew or met her.

"She was a bubble of life and her brief time with us will forever leave a hole that will never be filled.

"Jonathan, 20, Ian, 17, and Laura, 18, kiss her good night and sleep tight.

"We would like to thank our family and friends for their words of comfort at this awful time. Our hearts are with Katie's friends at Fred Longworth School, Tyldesley and Harper Green, Farnworth.

"Nana will look after you now baby. Love you always."
