WHITEFIELD printer Peter Brown was getting back to normal after a £9,000 arson blaze at his Ernest Brown and Son works at the former Stand Mission in Besses, which forced him to lay off six printers. INTRUDERS were thought to be responsible for a fire which destroyed a mill in Green Lane, Whitefield, which had been the old premises of Standline Upholstery Factory, but was awaiting demolition. The fire sent showers of sparks 70ft into the air as more than 40 firefighters struggled to bring it under control.
