THE parents of a man murdered in Prestwich have appealed for information on the third anniversary of their son’s death.

David Lees, aged 23, died in hospital in the early hours of October 28, 2006, after he was deliberately hit by a car in Middleton Road outside a petrol station.

Police have stepped up the reward offer from £20,000 to £50,000, in a bid to track down and convict the killer.

David, the son of Anne and Don Lees, had been out with friends when they became involved in a disturbance with a group of Asian men.

A man wearing a hooded top was seen getting into a silver Vauxhall Vectra, registration number T313 NCR.

The car sped up to between 60 and 70mph before it drove directly at David, who was in the middle of the road.

The car was then driven to the gates at Heaton Park in Middleton Road where the driver met with friends in other cars before heading to south Manchester.

Detectives have made extensive inquiries into the murder but still need to trace the Vectra and the driver.

The owner of the car, Arfan Javed, of Longsight, was jailed for two years in 2007 after being convicted of perverting the course of justice by not telling police the driver’s name.

The victim’s father Mrs Lees, aged 50, who lives in Blackley, said: “Someone out there knows what happened to David. I hope this huge amount of money helps jog a few memories.

“We will never rest until his killer is brought to justice.

“I want to tell David’s killer that you might think you’ve got away with it but one day there will be a knock on your door.”

Det Supt Sam Haworth, leading the murder investigation, said: “I believe someone in the community will have vital information about this murder.

“You may think that what you know is insignificant and a long time has passed since David died, but to me it might be the final piece of the jigsaw I am looking for.

“Friendships and allegiances can change, so it is possible that the prospect of a life-changing cash reward may persuade someone to do the right thing.”
