KEEN gardeners can get some useful tips on how to get the best out of their greens by attending Prestwich Horticultural Show at the end of this month.

At the back of Prestwich Arts College, off Heys Road, between 2pm and 5pm on August 30, guests can find out how to grow fruit and vegetables of all shapes and sizes and enter a wide range of competitions on the day.

They can also find out how to recycle garden waste efficiently and learn about making the best of allotment space.

Show patron and Sedgley Ward councillor Ann Garner, said: “Each year there is a huge amount of work put into the show.

“Last year I had been asked to be the honourary president and I was so impressed with the whole event.

“Prestwich Horticultural Society supports and encourages people to enjoy growing things be it in their gardens or allotment.

“It has a super little shop at Langley Allotments open each Sunday morning when people are also welcome to walk around the allotments there to enjoy the peace and quiet.”

She added: “The show is amazing. After the competition judging at 5pm, there is an auction of flowers and produce displayed. which helps to raise money for next year’s show.

“There’s heaps of space to park and everybody is really friendly and inviting and its a cheep local afternoon out.”
