Bury Woman Of The Year - The Winners

Volunteer Geeta Sarin has been crowned Bury’s Woman Of The Year 2012.

The Whitefield woman was named as the overall winner of the title in a ceremony held this afternoon at Bolholt Country Park Hotel in Bury, in aid of Bury Hospice.

Geeta was nominated for her work with the “BIG in mental health” group and also founded a website on sexual abuse awareness, having battled back against a number of health-related setbacks.

She was chosen as the winner of the volunteer category, as well as the overall title winner.

Other individual winners were Dorothy Shenton in the carer category, and Emma Morris for the business award.

Dorothy, aged 75, from Bury, has been fostering for more than 30 years, while Emma runs the highly-successful Chocolate Cafe in Ramsbottom.
