9:58am Monday 8th October 2012 in News
A man armed with a claw hammer attempted to rob a bookmakers in Prestwich.
The man walked into William Hill on Middleton Road at 5.40pm on Saturday September 15.
He approached the counter where staff were working and demanded they gave him money, hitting the glass screen with the claw hammer.
The workers ran into a back room while the offender tried to reach underneath the screen to steal cash before he ran off empty handed.
No one was injured.
The man is described as being white, of stock build, had shaven brown hair and wore a snood that covered his face. He also wore a white t-shirt with a rectangular logo on the front.
Detective Constable Rob Leacy from Bury CID said: “We have been able to obtain a clear image of the offender from CCTV and I would ask people to take a good look at him. “At the time of the incident, the weather was fine so the sight of a man wearing a snood may have appeared unusual. If you recognise him or may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, I would urge you to contact police.”
