Follow the bands to Ramsbottom Festival!

Festival fever is taking over Ramsbottom as the town gets ready to rock its socks off to the beats of indie, ska and folk for its second annual festival.

For three days, starting tonight, the sounds of cork on willow at Ramsbottom Cricket Club will be replaced by the sound of music.

The local Irwell Works Brewery is toasting the occasion with its limited edition festival ale and in anticipation of sunny skies, Holden’s Ice Cream of Bolton has invented the one-off Rammy Ripple, a limited edition artisan ice-cream flavour.

Las Paelleras, Eagle and Child, Tibetan Kitchen and Buddha Lounge, will be keeping the visitors fed with locally produced food stalls serving Thai, traditional Lancashire, Tibetan and Spanish dishes.

Roddy Frame, I am Kloot and Inspiral Carpets lead the line-up of musical talent and provide a backdrop to a wide variety of family entertainment, which includes children’s music and art workshops and games, comedy, live cookery demonstrations, a farmers market, craft stalls, a fun fair, and silent disco.

Getting to the venue can be done in style with East Lancashire heritage railway laying on special steam services between Bury and Ramsbottom.

“From new music from new and emerging artists, we’ve handpicked a line-up that offers a fantastic weekend festival right here in Lancashire,” said David Agnew, festival director.

“Foodie businesses have also really stepped up to the plate to give a fantastic local flavour too, which further enhances the Festival atmosphere.

“Ticket sales have been brilliant and so we can keep the advance ticket price at £20 for a day ticket (£5 for children). We are expecting a fantastic turnout of both local people and visitors venturing from South Manchester, Lancashire and beyond. It’s going to be a great party.”

The Ramsbottom Festival is a not-for-profit project managed by The Met, an arts charity and performance venue in Bury.

I went yesterday and it was fantastic, well worth the money.

The organisers should give themselves a big pat on the back.
