Police are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired at an address in Bury yesterday.

At 12.20pm on Sunday 10 June 2012, police were called to East Street in Bury following a report that a man had been seen with a shotgun.

Armed officers quickly arrived at the scene and found that shots had been fired at the front of a house.

No-one was injured during the incident.

A search of the area was carried out and police inquiries are ongoing.

The man was described as wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Superintendent Karan Lee from GMP's Bury division said; "Understandably, members of the community will be disturbed to hear news that gunshots have been fired, as incidents such as this are extremely rare in the Bury area.

"However, I can reassure them that no one has been injured and we are doing our utmost to find out who is responsible.

"We have a team of officers who remain at the scene and they are continuing to search the area and speak to residents.

"We do not believe this was a random attack but we are asking for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious during the time of the incident to contact police.

“We are determined to recover this firearm and take it off our streets and are asking for the community’s help to do this. All information we receive will be confidential.

"Extra police officers will remain on patrol in the area over the coming few days to provide reassurance to local people there."
