A FESTIVAL-GOER has written a letter to thank police who came to his aid after he 'got into a real tangle' at Parklife.

The author of the letter, who apologised for using police time, was not arrested at the festival, which took place over the weekend of June 9-10.

He said he has no recollection of the officers who helped him but to express his gratitude, has made a £100 donation to the police charity Care of Police Survivors (COPS).

The man, from Leicestershire, wrote: "I was going to send a crate of wine but was told it was not 100 per cent that it would be accepted by the duty officer so this seemed a better bet."

The thank you letter and note were received by Chief Supt Graeme Openshaw, who oversaw the policing operation at Parklife.

The £100 will support the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty.

Chief Supt Openshaw, who is head of Greater Manchester Police's specialist operations, said: "Although we don’t know what 'tangle' this man was in, it is always pleasing to get positive feedback from the people who we are there to serve and protect.

"Our priority is to make sure people can attend events like Parklife safely and go home with great memories."

Tim Buckley, chief executive of COPS, said: "We are extremely grateful to this man for his generous donation, which will support our work with the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty.

"The police and wider police community are keen supporters of our work so I am sure they will be delighted by this kind gesture."
