A SAFETY warning is set to be issued after a Metrolink passenger was dragged along by a tram.

The incident took place at around 1.30pm on May 30 after a passenger's hand became trapped in a closed door near to the rear of the vehicle at Bury Metrolink stop.

The departing tram then dragged the man along as it moved about 15 metres before the driver reopened the doors and the passenger boarded the tram.

Following the incident the Government's Rail Accident Branch launched a preliminary investigation and, having assessed the evidence, have announced they will shortly be publishing a safety digest.

David Nicholls, HSQE Director at KeolisAmey Metrolink, said: “Safety is the number one priority for KAM and following the incident an internal investigation has commenced and is on-going.

"KAM has provided information to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch who have decided to not carry out a formal investigation but will publish a safety digest, which will be available on the RAIB website in due course.”
