A BRIGHT 10-year-old jumped into action after her mum suffered a severe allergic reaction.

Hanna Rehman helped save her mum's life by putting her first aid knowledge in practice.

When Michelle Floyd suffered a severe reaction to medication, Bury Grammar School pupil Hanna rushed to her aid.

She remained composed and bravely put her mum in the recovery position before calling 999 to get help, and then alerting other family members.

Hanna, from Alkrington, had been learning these lifesaving skills during her school's First Aid Club.

"I stayed on the phone until the ambulance arrived," she said. "When they had looked at my mum they looked after us and we both had a ride in the ambulance.

"The ambulance crew told me how brilliant I had been and asked how I knew what to do.

"I told them I had been in First Aid Club at Bury Grammar School with Mrs Woodhead and learned how to stay calm and follow instructions."

During the club sessions, Hanna had been following the British Red Cross programme for primary school children.

Head of Year 6 Kathryn Woodhead said: "I’m so proud of Hanna and the way she used her learning.

"The motto the British Red Cross use is: 'Life. Live it' and Hanna really has saved a life."

Hanna received the Junior Headteacher's award for helping to save her mum's life.

Hanna’s mum said: "Hanna was amazing. I have no recollection of the incident and the ambulance crew told me how calm and professional Hanna had been.

"I am so grateful that she attended the First Aid course."
