SUGGESTIONS are now being accepted for the design of the new Ramsbottom War Memorial.

The Ramsbottom War Memorial Project aims to raise £50,000 to replace the existing war memorial in the grounds of St. Paul’s Church on Bridge Street with a larger one, which will bear the names of more than 500 fallen personnel from both world wars who lived in Ramsbottom and surrounding villages.

To date, the project has raised over £43,000 thanks to donations from local businesses, families and the general public.

The public are now being invited to submit their suggestions for the memorial, with the best ones to be put on the group’s website, as well as being displayed locally for public viewing.

The group say that any design must make room for the 500 names engraved on the existing memorial, as well as for any future names.

It must also be in keeping with the local surroundings of the village and enable disabled access.

The closing date for suggestions is Monday, January 8 2018.

Any designs should be submitted on A4 paper, stating name and address, to Mr. M. Wiggam, 10 Lancaster Avenue, Ramsbottom, BL0 9QA.
