A CHIRPY tram driver swept away the Blue Monday blues this morning - and commuters have gone wild for his positivity.

The Metrolink driver - known only as 'Darren' - won the praise of tram users on the Bury-to-Altrincham line this morning after entertaining them with a bevy of funny announcements.

Blue Monday is a name given to a day in January reported to be the most depressing day of the year - due to a combination of factors, including weather conditions, debt level, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and feeling of a need to take action.

And this year it falls today, Monday January 16.

But 'Darren' was determined to bring a smile to his customers' faces with his motivational speeches and tannoy titbits.

And his lucky commuters took to social media to thank him for brightening up their journey to work.

According to Twitter users, he announced; "If you don't want to talk to fellow commuters, move to London.  This is Manchester.  We are nice."

Eimear Strong said the happy chap announced: "Today's Blue Monday but not on this tram." He also greeted everyone who got on the tram and announced each stop along the journey.

Dozens of commuters tweeted Metrolink to give positive feedback about their employee and tell them how he made their morning. Metrolink were pleased with the comments and promised they would be passed on to the driver.
