A SUPERMARKET has donated an apple tree to a primary school — so children and teachers can plant and grow their own fruit.
Morrisons Whitefield, in Stanley Road, donated the three year-old tree to Sunny Bank Primary School, in Hathaway Road.
It was delivered along with two crates of apples, so that children had a chance to taste the fruit which the tree will eventually produce.
Rochelle Gardner, community champion at Morrisons, said she was delighted to have met the children. She said: “We hope our British apple tree will be a lovely addition to Sunny Bank Primary School’s playground.
“We hope that the children will enjoy watering, pruning and looking after it whilst it grows — and that it bears much fruit for pupils for many years to come.”
