FAMILIES flocked to enjoy a party in the park on Saturday.

Bury East Sports Association’s Annual Party in the Park returned to Openshaw Park in Rochdale Road, Bury, on Sunday thanks to a grant from Bury Council.

The park was filled with fairground rides, football competitions, tombolas and a variety of food and drink stalls to entertain all the family.

Malc Hulton treasurer of BESA said although the event did not see as many visitors as in previous years, it was still a success.

He said: “It’s the 13th event we’ve held after holding the first in 2004.

“In the past it’s proved really popular and last year we saw about 200 people come through the gates.

“This year, unfortunately, we didn’t see as many people although it was still an enjoyable day out for those who came. We rely on the public and the nice weather for it to be a great day.

“This year we were short on funding to pay for the fair so applied for a grant from Bury Council’s community fund. Luckily enough they approved our request and it paid for us to hold the event.

“We’re grateful to everyone who comes out to support the association.”
