ACTOR Will Mellor is in Bury today launching a campaign to get more disabled people involved in sport.

Mellor, who comes from Stockport and has appeared in shows such as Casualty and Broadchurch, is showing his support for the campaign in Clarence Park, Bury, today.

The national campaign is called Together We Will and is aimed at encouraging disabled men, women and children to get active is launching for the first time, with the support of the English Federation of Disability Sport.

Mellor knows at first-hand how important and beneficial it is to be active for disabled people.

His sister, Joanne, was born with Marfan’s syndrome and had both physical and mental disabilities.

Keeping active was key to ensuring Joanne’s life was more fulfilling up until she sadly died in 2013, aged 44.

Mellor is today showing his support for Wheels For All, which has 60 supporters - some disabled - who meet weekly in the park to enjoy cycling.

He said: "Joanne found it hard to have a go at sport when she was younger but got a lot more opportunity to socialise and get active as she got older and I saw the benefits that gave her.

"I want to encourage other people to get out there and give it ago as it could change their lives."
