PATIENTS at the Priory Highbank Centre helped raise more than £1,000 in a sponsored walk for Bury Hospice.

The centre, which caters for people who have mental health difficulties or have suffered severe brain injuries, organised a five-mile walk between their Elton and Walmersley units.

Friends, family, and staff members took part in the event, while some patients were able to join in a small section of the walk.

A spokesman for the centre said everyone who took part contributed to a great day.

He said: "It was a really good day. The weather was nice, which always helps with getting people to come out and support it. There were 40 people who did the walk and eight patients who joined us for a part of it, as they are not able to walk that far."

A spokesman for Bury Hospice said: "

It is expected the final fundraising total could be around £1,500 once all the money is counted.
