A BURY pub has unveiled a fresh, new look after undergoing a major refurbishment.

The White Boar in Radcliffe Road, reopened last weekend following a £180,000 investment.

There have been substantial changes made, including the introduction of a feature fireplace, new bar, new snug area and good sized beer garden.

Along with the changes to the interior, a new menu has been created which has led to the development of two additional, permanent jobs.

Craig Mansell runs the pub with his wife Debbie.

Born and bred in Bury, they were actual customers at the pub before taking on the tenancy.

Mr Mansell said: "It's very much a sports pub, so we have ensured that remains an integral part of what we offer our customers. However, the investment has allowed us to develop the food side of our business.

"You notice the difference as soon as you walk in the door – it looks very modern but still keeping the traditional feel, and the new additions make it very welcoming and family friendly.

"We are over the moon with the changes and we’ve had a wonderful reaction from customers."

The pub was closed for five weeks while work was carried out and the grand unveiling took place on June 11.

The pub is part of a portfolio owned by Blackburn-based Daniel Thwaites, a family business established in 1807. On hand to oversee the re-opening at the weekend, alongside Thwaites Area Business Manager Linda Goodfellow, were Thwaites’ famous Shire Horses who are always ready to be on parade and welcome customers to Thwaites pubs.

Director of pubs and brewing at Daniel Thwaites, Andrew Buchanan, said: “The White Boar is a great pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere but it was looking a little tired.

"We have made a substantial investment in improving it, so it now looks fresh and modern – but we were keen not to take away any of the fantastic character and above all it is still a fantastic local pub.

"This refurbishment has done a great job of giving the pub a new lease of life and it’s good to hear the positive comments from customers, who now have even more reasons to visit with the introduction of a new food offer."
