A BURY-based charity that helps disabled youngsters into sport has been given £1,000.

Before Christmas, mobile phone operator Vodafone encouraged people to nominated good causes at its branch in the Mill Gate shopping centre in Bury.

Scores of people nominated Jigsaw, which is based in Kay Street, Bury and also helps disabled people socialise.

The cash was handed over earlier this week, which will allow Jigsaw to organise more activities.

Jigsaw's manager in Bury, Zoe Oldham, said: "We are delighted to be receiving the £1,000 Vodafone Community Connection Award.

"The money will support our work, offering sport and social activities for young disabled people."

The awards began in 2014 and have so far benefited more than 60 community groups across the UK.

Vodafone's Bury store manager Tom Jackson said: "I am delighted that we, on behalf of Vodafone, have presented this cheque to Jigsaw.

"Congratulations to them, they are a truly deserving cause."
