A BURY resident is warning others to be aware of an email scam that asks recipients to claim bogus a tax rebate.

Chloe Kirkbride received an email purporting to be from HM Revenue and Customs advising her that she was entitled to a tax refund of £398.

The email asked her to click though a link to fill the form out online in order that the money could be ‘sent to your bank account in due time’.

It added: ‘Please take your time to go through the bank details we have on file’.

Bury resident Chloe said: “People should be warned out about a junk email from HM Revenue and Customs regarding a due Tax Rebate. I've just had one and they look very genuine.”

HMRC advise that they will never email people to notify them of a tax rebate, nor ask people to disclose personal information or bank account details.
