A HEARTBROKEN daughter is grieving for a second time after losing a pendant necklace containing her father’s ashes.

Lauren King, aged 29, lost her father, Neil King, to lung cancer in 2006 and to help comfort her, she had his ashes stored in a pendant necklace.

She is now grieving the loss of her father again, after losing the sentimental necklace while making her way home from working a shift at Morrisons in Ramsbottom, on January 16.

An appeal posted on Facebook for anyone who may have seen or found the necklace, was shared more than 85 times.

Lauren, who lives in Bury, said: “I'm really grateful to everyone who shared the post.

"My mum gave me the necklace for Christmas the year we scattered his ashes, which was about three years ago.

“He loved boats and the sea so we hired a pirate ship and scattered his ashes in the sea.

“I didn't deal with losing him very well and it took me a long time to come to terms with it, but it was nice to have some part of him still.

“I know I was wearing it when I left the house for work at 6.10am, I didn't realise it was gone until I got home around five that evening.

“So during that time I had walked into Bury, got a bus to work, done a nine hour shift, got the bus back to Bury and then walked back to my house.

“I live just past Millers Vanguard in Rochdale Old Road, so it could have fallen off anywhere.”

Lauren is now appealing for anyone who may have seen the necklace or picked it up, to get in touch.

She added: “I tried to retrace my steps but it was snowing and by the time I realised it was gone my footsteps were already covered.

“What bothers me is the fact that someone might have picked it up and not even know what it holds.

“It's glued shut and it just looks like a plain silver heart. Somebody could even be wearing it.

“My dad’s ashes should be with family, and I feel like the absolute worst person, because I haven't taken care of them.

“I wore it every day, and if the chain snapped I know that's not my fault, but it feels like it is, I just want it back with family. It's comforting to me and I've been very upset about it.”
