STUDENTS at Bury College revealed live on the BBC the grand total of money raised over a week long Children in Need charity drive.

Ten Bury College Student Action Group students, along with two members of Bury College staff, announced that they had raised an outstanding £824 live to the nation on Friday evening at Blackpool Tower.

Pupils studying a broad range of courses teamed together to raise money for the worthy cause.

Emily Riley, aged 18, from Bury, who organised the fundraising initiative said: “I really enjoyed organising the event to raise money for charity and was responsible for buying the stuff we sold, making the bags and designing posters we used to promote the event.”

A number of students took it in turns to ‘Row the Channel’ on a rowing machine and successfully rowed the equivalent length of crossing the channel.

Student governor, Callum Bridge, aged 17, from Bacup, was one of the students to travel to Blackpool and was also involved in the fundraising activities across the college. He said: “I am really enjoying my time at Bury College and like all the opportunities that are available here.”

Throughout the week, learners also held bake sales, raised donations for bespoke Children in Need selfie sticks and participated in a sponsored fancy dress competition.
