A ROW over whether two houses should be built in Radcliffe is set to be settled next week.

KBL Developments (North West) wants to build two semi-detached, three-bedroom houses on the site of a former garage colony off Mosley Street, close to Hampson Fold.

The firm made a similar application late last year and withdrew it in January.

Bury planning committee is set to make a decision about the latest application at a town hall meeting at 7pm on Tuesday.

A Bury Council report said: "The site relates to a derelict piece of land.

"The garage colony was removed and the site has now been vacant for a number of years."

Alison and Stephen Jackson, of Lever Street, Radcliffe, have formally objected to the application.

According to the report, they claim: "The original application was objected to by the Coal Authority and council's highways department and there seems to be no difference in the re-application to justify these objections being lifted.

"The narrow access to the site would be a health and safety issue for access by plant and equipment. The application should be refused."

Planning officers have recommended the application be approved, citing that the Coal Authority and the council's highways sections have not objected and that site access details would be covered by conditions that construction workers must follow.
