IT'S success at the double for Bury's Fusilier Museum after scooping two major accolades at the Greater Manchester Tourism Awards 2015.

The Moss Street attraction claimed the title of Small Tourism Event for Gallipoli 100 which took place earlier this year to commemorate 100 years since the battle.

All six VCs were reunited for the first time as part of a special weekend of events including a performance of a newly-commissioned piece of music by The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, Scotland.

And the second award was for Small Tourism Attraction where the museum was recognised for its contribution to the industry as well as putting Bury on the visitor trail.

The annual Greater Manchester Tourism Awards, hosted by Marketing Manchester, took place at the city's Hotel Football.

Judges said Gallipoli 100 was an excellent example of what a small event can achieve and how to reach out into the wider community. The museum will now progress through to the national awards, organised by VisitEngland.

Helen Smith, museum general manager, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been awarded for not one but two accolades in the regional tourism awards. We were up against some big names in both categories, so to win such prestigious awards is amazing."

* Downton A Wartime Christmas, a new exhibition including costumes from the award winning TV, series is due to open at the museum on November 27 and run until December 23.
