A CRACKDOWN on the borough's most wanted criminals saw police arrest 13 people across Bury on Tuesday.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s 11 divisions targeted wanted offenders throughout the day, with support from specialist operations officers, as part of the ongoing Operation Olympus initiative.

The raids in Bury were praised as among the most successful, yielding some of the highest arrest figures from the region, with wanted suspects arrested for offences such as assault, money laundering and damage of a motor vehicle.

Local police divisions were assisted on the day by specialist units such as tactical aid, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) intercept teams and the dog and mounted units.

In total, more than 80 people were apprehended by officers who carried out raids across Greater Manchester in the day of action.

Chief Inspector Chris Hill said: “The only target we set ourselves for the day was to make the communities of Greater Manchester safer and I think we have achieved that with a great return of 88 wanted people arrested in 24 hours.

“It was brilliant effort from everyone involved and, although the day of action has finished, we will continue to pursue those wanted by police, day and night.

“I hope the results here will send a clear message that it doesn’t matter what you are wanted for or where you are hiding, we are coming for you.”

In June, a five-day Operation Olympus crackdown saw 362 people arrested in Greater Manchester for a range of crimes including burglary, theft, assault, harassment, fraud, indecency and domestic abuse.

Anyone with information on a wanted person should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
