A CHARITY football match featuring a team of Manchester City legends was the highlight of a family fun day that raised more than £1,000 on Sunday.

The ex-City players were led by 1976 League Cup winner Peter Barnes, as they took on a team from the local emergency services, including police chief constable Sir Peter Fahy, at the ROC Football event at Radcliffe Borough FC.

A squad of youngsters who attend the Friday night youth football project also took on the ex-pros, with hundreds of families turning out for the celebration, which also featured a tournament for under-11s.

Peter Barnes said: "The lads give up their time to help many good causes and are always pleased to reminisce with the fans. I have friends going back a long way at Radcliffe and I am always only too willing to help out, and also for a good cause getting lads off the street and playing football."

Steve Ranftler, ROC project manager, added: "It was a fantastic day. We had a brilliant turnout and things were so well organised that we are hoping to make it a yearly event."
