A GROUP of Bury bank workers are in the money after helping raise more than £100,000 for Hospice UK.

They were among more than 150 employees from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks who have successfully taken on an ancient Roman frontier.

Jolene Campbell, aged 27, who works as banking adviser in Yorkshire Bank’s Bury branch, completed the Hadrian's Hike fundraising challenge alongside local colleagues Jayne Hagreen, Debra Holmes and Janet Suggitt.

The team undertook a 26-mile trek along part of Hadrian’s Wall, and was the biggest staff fundraising initiative for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, as part of their partnership with the UK’s leading charity for hospice care.

Hadrian's Wall spans from coast to coast across some of the UK’s most breathtaking scenery and, during the 15-hour expedition, the trekkers tackled varied terrain including stony tracks and steep climbs, reaching a height of 800 metres.

Jolene said: “It was a challenging but truly exhilarating experience to hike along Hadrian’s Wall with so many of my colleagues for the benefit of Hospice UK. The bank is supporting us by match funding every penny raised which was a great motivation along the way.”

Jacqui Atkinson, community support manager at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said: “Hadrian’s Hike marked our largest ever employee fundraising event and we’re very proud of our team for completing the demanding challenge. The £100,000 raised for Hospice UK will provide the charity with much needed support in delivering its invaluable services.”
