AN innovate arts project which had bridged the generation gap between pensioners and pupils is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The Art to Heart initiative was launched by Elton High School in 2005 and has involved pupils taking part in arts and crafts sessions with residents in various care homes in the town.

To celebrate the 10th birthday of the project, an exhibition and party took place at Bury's Fusilier Museum, attended by some of the young Elton artists and their older counterparts.

A total of 29 pieces of artwork went on show, of which a selection can be viewed in the Moss Street museum's foyer until September.

Emma Long, Elton High School's community arts manager, said: "This project is all about bringing older and young people together during the art making process and bridging the gap between the generation as a result. Art to Heart is brightening days, stirring minds and touching hearts."

During the past decade, more than 2,000 pupils have visited a number of Bury care homes as well as Speakeasy in Ramsbottom to deliver one-to-one artistic sessions, embracing drawings, oils and pastels, card making and multi-media pieces. This year's theme involved care home residents producing artwork to reflect their 10 favourite things.
