A BURY firm has raised £1,020 to help victims of the Nepal earthquake disaster.

Pulse Flexible Packaging staged a fundraiser organised by customer service representative Jake Heaton, with the support of his colleagues.

The event involved staff at the company's base at Bridge Hall Mills dress down for the day for a donation of £1. Raffle tickets were also sold for a variety of prizes generously donated by local businesses, employees, customers and suppliers.

Jake and customer service colleague Val Newby rolled up their sleeves and served crumpets and drinks to other employees for a minimum donation of £1, while Sophie Clarke, Lucy Clark and Julie Ballesteros all baked an array of cakes which were sold for 50p each.

Jake said: "After hearing about the suffering people of Nepal I wanted to raise funds to help them begin to rebuild their lives. Once the idea was mentioned it was clear more people felt this way too.

"We were all so moved by the shocking images in the newspapers, we felt she should do what we could to raise as much money as possible."

The day was branded a success, with the employees raising a total of £510. This figure was doubled thanks to a pledged by company bosses to match the employee contributions pound for pound.
