A BEER-bellied vandal covered his face with his shirt before going on the rampage in Unsworth.

Over the course of 10 minutes, the yob caused damage to eight vehicles that cost their owners thousands of pounds to repair.

CCTV cameras captured the wrecking spree, which happened in Parr Lane and Sunnybank Road at around 4.45am on Saturday May 2.

Police say the man smashed up the vehicles by hitting wing mirrors and scratching the bodywork.

He also scrawled expletives onto many of the vehicle bonnets and then walked off from Parr Lane towards Stanley Road in Whitefield.

The vehicles damaged were a Mini, a Rover, a Vauxhall Corsa, a Vauxhall Insignia, a Seat Leon, a Mercedes van, a Skoda Citigo and a Citroen Nemo.

Investigating officers have now released CCTV images of the man in the hope that someone can identify him.

PC Richard Garland, of Bury South Police, said it is possible the man lives in the Whitefield or Unsworth area.

He added: "The man is captured on camera. He is a white male with a distinctive beer belly and a pair of fashionable jeans.

"The male obscured his face with his T-shirt. His trousers appear to have distinctive patterns on the rear pockets.

"From the way he was staggering around, it is possible that he was under the influence of alcohol."
