A SHOP can start selling alcohol after councillors gave bosses the green light.

Mohammed Zadah, from Rochdale, asked Bury Council if he could have an alcohol sales licence for the Euro Shop in Rochdale Road, Bury,

However, 12 people signed a petition expressing concerns that the licence might lead to people loitering outside the shop, being anti social and dropping litter.

Bury Police also expressed concerns about the licence but withdrew a formal objection after Mr Zadah agreed to install CCTV cameras and keep the outside of the shop tidy.

A licensing meeting took place at the town hall last Wednesday and a panel of three councillors granted the licence.

Afterwards, panel chairman Cllr David Jones said: "None of the objectors were present.

"We were content that there had been no history of negativity associated with the shop and the concerns were fears about what might happen.

"We were satisfied that the measures put in place, and favoured by the police, will address those concerns and, overall, we were impressed with the approach of the applicant."
