DIEHARD fans will begrudgingly wear the shirts of their rival teams to raise money for a 10-year-old boy given months to live.

Limefield youngster Stewart Sheridan was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour days after he was sent home from a Bury GP with cream for a “virus”.

Stewart, a year five pupil at Fairfield Primary School, is currently a patient at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and is having chemotherapy and radiotherapy at The Christie to try and shrink the tumour, which is in the middle of his brain.

Father Michael, of Arley Avenue, claims a GP at Ribblesdale Medical Practice wrongly diagnosed Stewart with a virus despite him suffering hallucinations and persistent nosebleeds.

Tomorrow (Saturday, March 21), friends and family are inviting the public to a fun day at the Towler Inn in Walmersley Road between 2pm and 7pm.

There will be bouncy castles, slides, face painting, children’s games, mascots, sponsored waxing, stalls, a raffle and an auction at 5pm.

The event has been organised by Michael’s friends Emma Knight, Katrina Geddis and her husband Lee Geddis, with the trio also responsioble for setting up an online donations page which has raised £2,230 to date.

At the fun day, Michael, a die-hard Manchester City supporter, and Lee, a Manchester United fan, will do a sponsored shirt swap for the day because Stewart loves football.

Instructors from Sutemi Shukokai Karate Ryu, a karate group which runs classes at the Mosses Centre, will perform a demonstration at 3.30pm.

Katrina said: “My husband, Emma and I are truly grateful for all the donations and help, with our donations page already over £2,000.

“We have also had a very generous donation of £350 from the parents and children of Walshaw under sevens FC, who have also done so much more to help including volunteering to help on the day.”

Katrina, of Greywood Avenue, said initially the fund was set up to raise £2,000 to fix Michael’s car so he could see his son more easily, but the target has now been put at £5,000.

She added: “We want to raise the money to look after Michael in any way we can, so he can concentrate on looking after Stewart. We have all done this out of love for this little boy.”
