THE Mayor of Bury hit the airwaves in a 'Guess Who' style competition on BBC Radio 1.

Cllr Michelle Wiseman featured on the 'Mayor of Where' game, a regular feature on Greg James' afternoon show, in which Greg and newsreader Chris Smith have to guess which town the secret guest is Mayor of.

The pair initially had difficulty working out what town Cllr Wiseman represented, but when she mentioned that famous celebrities from Bury included Danny Boyle, Victoria Wood and Lisa Riley, the penny began to drop.

Previous guesses by the hosts included Bolton and Oldham, before they finally guessed right.

They had previously failed to give the correct answer after Chris asked what is the most famous consumer product the town produces, when a canny Cllr Wiseman described it as a "very popular breakfast dish" which was meat based.

The pair also began to hone in on Bury when they asked how far it is from an airport, and when Cllr Wiseman said about 15 miles, they realised the town was in the North West.

On the show, Cllr Wiseman revealed that her daughter Danielle, who is also her Mayoress, put her forward to appear on the show.

When asked about what she is currently involved with in Bury, she said: "There is lots going on. We are busy planning at the moment for the 100th commemoration of Gallipoli, where the Lancashire Fusiliers served, which takes place on the weekend of April 25, and last week I was involved with awards for people for the poppy collections.

"We have also got the world famous Bury Market, which you could have asked me about! We have also got the Lancashire steam railway which another big tourist attraction, and its the birthplace of Sir Robert Peel, former Prime Minister and founder of the police force."
