WEDDING bells will soon be ringing for a couple who raised more charity cash in a fortnight than their rivals to win their dream day.

Loved-up Rebecca Mcloughlin aged 24, and her 25-year-old fiancé Danny Oxtoby have triumphed in a contest, which challenged six couples to fundraise the highest total for Cash4Kids.

A frantic fortnight of fundraising came to a breathtaking end on Monday, when the couple discovered they had won – live on Key 103 radio, which organised the competition.

Now Danny and Rebecca, who live in Nuttall Street, Pimhole, will be treated to a £20,000 white wedding at Mottram Hall in Cheshire this November.

Little Lever-born Danny said: “It has been a rollercoaster fortnight. Neither of us can quite believe we have won.

“We have been working so hard with the fantastic support of many people and, in one respect, I’m glad it’s all over – but now we can start planning all the fun.”

Danny and Rebecca raised £13,442.76, with the six competing couples bringing in a total of £34,000 for the charity, which supports Manchester’s disabled and disadvantaged youngsters.

The loved-up pair collected the cash by hosting a poker tournament, race night, roller disco, and brides versus grooms football and netball tournament.

Danny and Rebecca bag-packed at B&M in Bury every night and organised a sponsored bike ride between Bolton and Liverpool, with Danny climbing the equivalent of Ben Nevis with his groomsmen.

The couple’s prize includes tickets to a wedding fair in Manchester and their own glamorous wedding as well as dresses, rings, a photographer, singer and DJ, flowers, decorations and invitations.

Liverpool-born Rebecca, a speech and language therapist at Tameside Hospital, and Danny, a joiner, have been together eight years.

Danny proposed in July 2013, during a romantic holiday to the Dominican Republic.

Rebecca said: “We are just a normal couple who work really hard and are trying to save to buy a house.

“When we saw the competition on Twitter, we thought ‘why not’.”

Danny added: “It will be amazing to get wed to the girl I love.

“We just want to thank everyone who has donated to help us, the businesses around Bury and Bolton and the friends and family who have made this happen.”

Chelsea Norris, host of the Key103 breakfast show, said: “I am so happy for Rebecca and Daniel. They worked so hard and we wish them a wonderful wedding and fantastic life together.”
