FIREFIGHTERS were called after the carriage of a train on the site of the East Lancashire Railway caught fire.
The carriage, which was empty, caught fire in Baron Street at 2.55pm on Saturday.
The cause of the fire is not known, however it is thought to have started as a result of burning embers nearby which blew across onto the train.
The fire damaged two square metres of flooring and a side panel inside the carriage.
It had been shut for months, but was due to be used for a buffet in Heywood.
Bury fire station attended the scene and were there for about an hour.
