TWO men have appeared in court in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy.
Cameron Minshull, from Unsworth, died on January 8, 2013, when he became trapped in a machine at Huntley Mount Engineering Ltd in Huntley Mount Road, Fairfield, where he was an apprentice having left Radcliffe Riverside High School the previous summer.
Zaffar Hussain, aged 59, of Bridgefield Drive, Fairfield, who is the director at the firm, and Akbar Hussain, of the same address, who is a supervisor at the firm, were issued with court summonses for offences of manslaughter by gross negligence.
The company itself was also summonsed to face allegations of failing to maintain the machine and therefore showing a gross breach of a relevant duty of care and failing to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees.
A second company, Lime People Training Solutions Ltd was also summoned to court.
The firm, based in Moorhead Lane, Shipley, places apprentices with employers.
It was summonsed for failing to ensure the health and safety of a person not in its employment.
A provisional hearing took place at Bury Magistrates Court on Wednesday, November 4, and the case was sent to Manchester Crown Court, where a hearing was due to take place yesterday.
None of the four defendants have yet entered a plea.
Zaffar Hussain and Akbar Hussain were given unconditional bail.
