YOUNGSTERS at Bury Music Service will be the life and "sole" of the party to raise money for BBC's Children in Need appeal on Saturday.

The group, which involves more than 250 students, are set to bring in donations and take part in a number of wacky activities planned for the day.

Organisers are calling on their members to wear a pair of odd shoes, enjoy some cakes and get involved in different games.

The music service, whose headquarters are in Mersey Drive, Whitefield, holds fundraising events for Children in Need every year by selling homemade cakes and wearing fancy dress, raising hundreds of pounds.

Ruby Flanagan, who has been a pupil at the music service for 10 years, said: "Every year Bury Music Service raises hundreds of pounds for the charity event by selling homemade cakes, embarrassing the music tutors and dressing in some of the best and most creative musical themed fancy dress around.

"Over the years we have seen a drag Maria and her Von Trapp family singers, the entire cast of Cats and the most memorable; a human-sized cardboard costume of a Violin.

"The yearly fundraiser is an enjoyable day, full of entertainment and laughs for the students and everyone involved.

Sophie Holt, aged 14, who has been a student for seven years, added: "I always really enjoy the day, everyone makes an effort and gets involved, it’s always really fun!"

The music service has been running for more than 40 years, and has a mix of 15 orchestras, bands and ensembles which young musicians can join.
