HOUSEHOLDS will have their bins collected as normal next Tuesday after unions suspended their planned strike action.

In anticipation of the industrial action, Bury Council had cancelled Tuesday’s rounds and arranged alternative collections on Sunday and Monday, October 12 and 13.

The council sent leaflets to the about 25,000 homes that were scheduled to be emptied on the Tuesday and would have been affected by the strike.

The alternative collections on Sunday and Monday will NOT now take place, after national leaders of the Unison, Unite and GMB unions suspended the strike yesterday afternoon.

A council spokesman said: “We apologise to affected residents for any inconvenience caused, and ask them to please put out their bins by 7am on Tuesday 14 October.”

Residents can check which bins are due to be emptied on the Bury Council website here.

This move does not affect the one-off collection of some residents' green bins tomorrow, which will still go ahead for those residents who have received a leaflet about it.
