A MAN had to be rescued by firefighters after getting his head stuck in an upstairs window.

The 28-year-old had returned from night out with pals to the house in Saxon Close at about 4.15am when his friend realised they had lost the keys.

The man climbed up onto a conservatory roof and onto a window ledge in order to put his head through a narrow, open window.

But when he looked inside, the window closed behind him, trapping his head.

His friends smashed down the front door of the house and raced upstairs to save him.

Worried he could slip and break his neck, they began sawing through the window frame.

They eventually called the fire service who put a ladder in place to reach him.

Crews then used a saw to cut through steelwork on the window and release him so he could climb down the ladder to safety.

Watch Manager Gary Stredder from Bury Community Fire Station said: “When we got the call we were expecting to find his legs hanging out the window but it was actually quite serious, as it was his head that was stuck.

“He was stood on a little window ledge and had he slipped he may well have broken his neck.

“He was trying to get access for his friend, so he had gone round the back, climbed onto the conservatory roof and found a narrow, open window which he put his head through and he couldn’t get it back out again.

“His friends were desperately trying to help him when we arrived - they had smashed their way through the front door and were trying to saw through the plastic frame.”

The man was checked over by paramedics but he escaped without injury.
