BURY will come alive with music this bank holiday with the town’s annual live rock festival set to take 13 separate stages by storm.

Glaston-Bury, an annual festival which has raised £60,000 for Bury Hospice since its inception six years ago, will return to the town centre on Monday.

Tickets costing £6 include access to more than 140 bands and artists, many of whom are based in the borough, from noon on Monday through to 3am the following day.

There will be an outdoor stage in Castle Street headlined by the Steve Ferringo Band, while Factory Records bands Crispy Ambulance, A Certain Ratio and Section 25 will return to The Met Theatre, a stage they last played when the building was Derby Hall.

Bands will also perform in Blind Tiger, Wyldes, Two Tubs, Pics Bar, The Art Picture House, Monkey House, Bar 101, Brambles, Molloy’s, Joqux O’th Rock and Pizza Pioneer.

Organiser Chris Buckley has promised the musical extravaganza, which has grown in size since it was first held at the Blind Tiger in 2008, will be “even bigger and better” than before.

And after sustaining losses last year, he hopes people from far and wide will come down to support the show, and Bury Hospice.

Chris, a DJ at Blind Tiger, said: “Things are hotting up for Glaston-Bury with this year our biggest line-up to date.

“It is a great platform for local acts and all these fantastic bands are giving up their time and talent for Bury Hospice.

“We are determined to push for a massive total for the hospice this year.”

Two US radio stations are broadcasting the whole event live so music-lovers from all over the world are able to join in the fun.

Glaston-Bury volunteers are in desperate need of a 50 to 70 KVA generator for the outdoor stage and anyone who is able to help should contact Bury Hospice fundraising on 0161 797 1748 or e-mail michelleking@buryhospice.org.uk
